The 5th International Conference on Evidence Law and Forensic Science 2015 (ICELFS)

 

    

 

 

On behalf of the hosts and sponsors, the Organizing Committee cordially invites you to the City of Adelaide from 20 -23 July 2015 for the inaugural convention of the ICELFS in Australia.

 

The 5th convention of the ICELFS will be the first held outside Beijing: a move which marks the success of the conferences to date in attracting an interdisciplinary and international delegation.

 

ICELFS 2015 will examine Proof in Modern Litigation through the Intersection or Reforms in Evidence Law and Forensic Science. The proceedings will continue the ICELFS tradition of rigorous exchange between the disciplines of Evidence Law and Forensic Science. In addition, in recognition of the growing international nature of the conference, presentations are invited from the perspectives of Political Science and Cultural Studies.

Pre-Conference Workshops :      20 - 21 July 2015

Conference Program :                 22 - 23 July 2015

 

The conference will be hosted at the University of Adelaide for an intensive two-day program of panel presentations where speakers are invited to critique and review developments and reforms in Evidence Law and Forensic Science. Submissions are invited on issues arising with respect to reform in these fields , including topics concerning:

 

1. The nature and purpose of proof in the administration of justice and the requirements and standards set by law for proof in investigation, trial appeal and review.

2. The scope and reliability of the forensic sciences and their place and influence within the administration of justice.

3. Foundations and principles guiding reform of the law of evidence in developed and developing nations.

4. The role and influence of scientific, moral, cultural, religious and political values on proof in the administration of justice. Problems and developments in particular fields of forensic science, such as DNA evidence , fingerprint evidence and the cognitive sciences.

5. Problems and developments in particular fields of forensic science, such as DNA evidence, fingerprint evidence and the cognitive sciences.

6. Expression of forensic evidence at trial and its combination with other evidence in determining facts in litigation.

7. Processes for ensuring the reliable use of forensic evidence during investigation.

8. Processes for ensuring the reliable use of forensic evidence at trial such as assurances of transparency, formulating strict standards for admissibility, permitting court appointed experts and further appeals against conviction.

 

Submissions outside these topics but within the overall theme of the Conference are welcome.

 

Where appropriate, panels for the 5th ICELFS will comprise speakers from the disparate disciplines in order to promote interdisciplinary exchanges.

 

We encourage and welcome your contribution to the conference through submission of an abstract .

 

 

Conference submission

 

Submissions must be written in English. The format of Conference Submission, see Attachment.

 

The deadline of submission: 30 April 2015

 

All submissions will be reviewed anonymously by the Expert Panel to determine the final participants. The participant will receive formal invitation before the date of 1 June 2015.

 

2011 Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization will select 30 merit submissions from all the Chinese participants, award the writers conference registration fee and cover their international travel charge. 

 

The 5th ICELFS conference program will be preceded by a two-day series of pre-conference workshops to give delegates an opportunity to visit key institutions concerned with the day to day administration of justice in South Australia - police, courts, forensic science laboratories, law reform body - and to engage directly with professionals and researchers in these institutions .

 

The Organizing Committee also welcomes proposals for workshop sessions to be included in the pre-conference program that are within the overall conference theme.

 

The key speakers at the 5th ICELFS - prominent International and Australian practitioners and researchers in the fields of Law, Science, Politics and Cultural Studies - will be announced as confirmed. The full program for the pre-conference workshops and conference will be announced following receipt of all abstracts.
