Professor of the University of Adelaide Andrew Ligertwood Delivered Courses on "Common Law Criminal Process and Forensic Science Evidence"

Professor Andrew Ligertwood from the University of Adelaide and also as a Vice President of the International Association of Evidence Science delivered the course "Common Law Criminal Process and Forensic Science Evidence" via an online platform starting October 26, 2024. The course is a key course for the construction of world first-class disciplines, the "2011 Plan" China Collaborative Innovation Center of Judicial Civilization(CICJC, China), the “111 plan” Base for Evidence Science Innovation and Talent Recruitment, and Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, CUPL.

The course is divided into eight lectures. The first lecture provides a brief introduction to the Australian legal system. The second to fifth lectures provide a detailed explanation of the Australian system of evidence, describing the full process of the adversarial model of trial and exploring the advantages and disadvantages of that model. The focus is on the main forms of evidence in Australia, in particular the application and importance of witness testimony. Lectures six and seven focus on the expert evidence system, describing its basic principles, expressions, and rules of admissibility. Lecture 8 was a moot court session, in which Professor Ligertwood, through the presentation of a real case, encouraged students to actively participate and play different roles in the case, and interpreted a wonderful trial, which concluded the course successfully.

The success of this course not only promoted Sino-Australian legal exchanges, but also provided a valuable learning opportunity for the law students, further deepening their understanding of international evidence law and criminal procedure.
