The 35th International Congress on Law and Mental Health (the Congress) was held in law school of Charles University in Prague, the Czech Republic, from 9 to 14 July 2017. About 1100 psychiatrists, psychological therapists, law practitioners and researchers from different countries (mainly from occidental countries) attended this Congress.

Professor Jinian HU from Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science (CUPL) attended the Congress and reported a paper entitled “China: Big Challenges in Treatment and Reintegration of Mentally Disordered Offenders”.

The Congress is held every two years, which is one of the most important international academic conference in its field. The Congress was held by International Academy of Law and Mental Health (IALMAH), the most important international academic organization in the field of law and mental health with its official publication International Journal of Law and Psychiatry (IJLP). IALMH is founded on the belief that issues arising from the interaction of law and mental health can be best addressed through multidisciplinary and cross-national approaches, drawing on the theory and experience of law, health, social sciences and the humanities.

Based on its fundamental belief, the Congress covered a wide range of topics (same as before), including mental-health-related philosophy, ethic, religion, policy and law, etc. It includes not only the traditional problems, such as mental health and criminal justice, violence and aggressive behavior, substance addiction, the compulsory medical treatment and so on, but also involves new developments, such as medical economics and the paradigm shift from criminal responsibility to risk management.
