International Course "Introduction to Evaluation of Scientific Evidence and Decision Analysis" Successfully Held at CUPL's Changping Campus

From April 24 to May 20, 2025, the international course "Introduction to Evaluation of Scientific Evidence and Decision Analysis" was successfully conducted at the Changping Campus of China University of Political Science and Law (CUPL). Delivered by a leading Swiss expert, the course comprised 10 in-depth sessions that systematically elucidated the principles and methods for interpreting forensic science evidence within judicial practice. It covered areas such as trace evidence, toxicology and illicit drugs, and forensic DNA, explaining how forensic scientists interpret and assess the value of evidence.

Incorporating specialized knowledge like Bayesian theorem, the course provided a profound explanation of the fundamental principles that scientific evidence should adhere to and strategies for addressing uncertainty, offering significant guidance for judicial practice. The teaching adopted diverse and innovative methods, starting from real cases and enriched with laboratory videos, interactive Q&A sessions, vividly recreating judicial scenarios. Knowledge absorption was reinforced through instant polling, assignments, and supplemented by extended learning with classic literature. The course attracted both internal and external students, faculty, and legal practitioners, fully embodying CUPL's philosophy of open education.
