First Lecture of Evidence Science Autumn Forum Successfully Launched

On September 2, 2025, the inaugural session of the Evidence Science Autumn Forum was held at the Xueyuan Road Campus. Centered on the theme "From Source to Activity: Insights from DNA Cases for the Evaluation of Forensic Science Evidence," the lecture delved into practical approaches at the intersection of scientific evidence and legal application. Nearly 100 faculty members and students attended the event.

During the lecture, the expert shared recent cases from the UK and Belgium, exploring the evaluation of DNA evidence and its presentation in court. Reflections on these cases highlighted the risks of relying solely on "detection" or "match criteria" in expert opinions while neglecting behavioral activity analysis. The expert also emphasized the importance of judicial ethics, advocating that forensic experts provide clear, transparent, and balanced professional evaluations. Following the lecture, participating scholars engaged in discussions on the foundation of scientific evidence, statistical expression, attitudes toward technological application, and iterations in DNA technology, summarizing collaborative experiences between China and Switzerland.

The lecture broadened the international perspectives of the attendees and deepened their understanding of the judicial practices related to forensic science evidence.
