【Abstract】 pertinent consideration [in determining whether a theory or technique is scientific knowledge that will assist the trier of fact] is whether the theory or technique has been subjected to peer review and publication.This paper discussed the origins of this practice, the ragged process by which it gradually became standard atscientific and medical journals, and the many roles it now plays; therationale for pre-publication peer review,and the inherent limitations of the system as a quality-control mechanism.
